The Big Give Christmas Challenge is the UK’s biggest collaborative fundraising campaign, championing a wide range of charities.
For one week only, donations made to charities through The Big Give website are doubled at no extra cost to supporters, thanks to match funding.
The 2024 Big Give Christmas Challenge raised a record-breaking £44.7 million in one week, with 119,000 donations from the public.
Thrive was delighted to have been selected to take part in the Challenge for the third year running. We were incredibly fortunate to have match funding from our Big Give Champion The Scouloudi Foundation and our pledger, the Leisure and Outdoor Furniture Association (LOFA), who have supported us with match funds each year since the start of our Big Give journey in 2022.
During the 2024 Challenge, which ran from Tuesday 3rd December to Tuesday 10th December, a life changing £30,828 was raised for Thrive, far exceeding our fundraising target of £25,000.
Thanks to the generosity of our wonderful supporters and the support of our match funders, we will be able to transform even more lives through promoting and providing Social & Therapeutic Horticulture across the UK.
A huge thank you to everyone who took part - whether you donated or you helped to raise awareness of the challenge and our work.

Al, Client Gardener at Thrive Reading
The pain Al feels every day is tremendous, but you wouldn’t know it. He has been diagnosed with Adult Stills Disease, a rare form of Rheumatoid Arthritis which is causing deterioration in every joint in his body and has targeted his heart. With chronic pain, hip replacements, major heart failure and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, his journey so far has been incredibly hard, and it will continue to be so. His condition is life changing and life limiting, yet he shares his story with a smile and a renewed zest for life which he found through gardening and Thrive.
