With almost a quarter of people in the UK living with a disability and 1 in 4 of us experiencing mental ill health every year, this December we're asking everyone to help the nation thrive with the Big Give 2024 Christmas Challenge.
This matched funding campaign is the biggest fundraiser of the year for us with a target of £25,000! Starting on Giving Tuesday 3rd December at midday to midday on 10th December online donations to our Big Give page will be generously matched by The Scouloudi Foundation and the Leisure and Outdoor Furniture Association (LOFA).
If you’re planning on giving to charity this Christmas, you can bring even more joy and make double the difference by donating this week when every donation is worth double.
At Thrive, we use therapeutic gardening programmes to improve peoples’ physical, mental and social health. We bring people with disabilities, health conditions or social isolation into a positive environment where they can stay active and find a sense of purpose and achievement through gardening and time in nature with others.
Al attends our Life Changers programme for people in the community living with life changing injury and illness.
The pain Al feels every day is tremendous, but you wouldn’t know it. He has been diagnosed with Adult Stills Disease, a rare form of Rheumatoid Arthritis which is causing deterioration in every joint in his body and has targeted his heart. With chronic pain, hip replacements, major heart failure and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, his journey so far has been incredibly hard, and it will continue to be so. His condition is life changing and life limiting, yet he shares his story with a smile and a renewed zest for life which he found through gardening and Thrive.
We support hundreds of people like Al every year to improve their health and wellbeing. Therapeutic gardening is benefiting people with major health conditions including those that have been diagnosed with Mental ill-health, a Stroke, Dementia, Muscular skeletal conditions and Lung conditions.
Thrive Fundraising Manager Edmund Jackson says:
It is heart-warming to be greeted by smiles and joyful faces in the gardens at Thrive, especially during the winter season.
Challenges and pressures often feel lighter when surrounded by people, plants and nature, and this can be seen through the hundreds of people we support every year with their health and wellbeing.
The generosity of our supporters keeps our impact growing. If you’re planning on giving to charity this Christmas, please donate to Thrive this week to let your gift grow. Thank you.
This Christmas, bring double the joy and change lives, by donating to our Big Give Christmas Challenge at www.thrive.org.uk/biggive
