Sam Gamblin, Regional Centre Manager at Thrive, Birmingham, explains the impact we have and why we have launched this fundraising appeal.
“With some of our core funding coming to an end, the services we provide to local disabled people and those experiencing ill health or disadvantage are at risk. In the gardens, people experience the life-changing benefits of gardening and nature where they can improve their physical and mental wellbeing and connect with others. Together, we can continue to grow health and wellbeing in our community, helping to rebuild confidence, reduce depression and tackle loneliness."
Raising £150,000 will help Thrive, Birmingham to:
• Keep therapeutic gardening programmes running
Local disabled people and those experiencing ill health or disadvantage need a safe, calming space where they feel understood, connected and valued.
• Take support into the community
Reaching those who are isolated, housebound, or struggling in neighbourhoods where opportunities for wellbeing are scarce.
• Create an accessible online home
Where our community can find help, feel inspired by others’ stories and know that they are not alone, and supporters can come together.
When I go home, I’m in a lot better place than when I come in…I would say to anyone, being outside in nature even if you can only do five minutes a day, is the best thing for your head you can possibly do
Lisa, Client Gardener
Corporate funding and donations from the community will reach people like Client Gardener, Lisa, whose mental health, social skills and confidence have improved since attending Thrive, Birmingham.
At our centres in Birmingham, London and Reading and through our community outreach programmes, we are supporting growing numbers of people struggling with their wellbeing.
