Living with ankylosing spondylitis and a neurological condition, Arun found healing through therapeutic gardening and joined Thrive London’s Life Changers programme in 2025 to improve his health and wellbeing through nature.

Gardening is a big part of Arun’s life. He lives with an inflammatory musculoskeletal condition, ankylosing spondylitis, as well as a complex neurological condition. He received treatment for his conditions in hospital where time in the ground's gardens benefited his recovery. Once home, Arun was keen to continue therapeutic activity that involved gardens and nature, and he joined the Life Changers programme at Thrive London in 2025.

Arun was a highly valued member of Life Changers and often chatted with others about their experiences and the most pressing issues affecting their lives. Outside of Thrive, Arun leads the research for the UK’s leading disability think-tank, The Disability Policy Centre, working with charities and policymakers. He also sits as Independent Committee Member for Scope, the national disability charity and is an Investment Manager with the UK’s leading social impact investor, Better Society Capital. As an Ambassador, Arun is working with us to raise our profile and hopes to volunteer at Thrive, London.

“Thrive had a big impact on my recovery, helping me to manage my symptoms and build up my confidence again so that I could return to work. I know first-hand how gardening programmes can change lives for those with long-term health conditions. I’m excited to become an Ambassador, and now use my knowledge and experience to raise the profile of therapeutic horticulture and Thrive’s outstanding work, which has the power to transform health and social care outcomes right across the country.”
