We are grateful for our partnership with the National Trust at The Vyne

This provides our clients with the opportunity for greater social integration within the community. Our therapists and clients work under the direction of the National Trust Staff to maintain a section of the walled garden, and undertake conservation activities in the woodland. This is a service that is available as a means of progression to our existing client base.

The Vyne is an impressive 16th century National Trust property in Sherborne St John near Basingtoke in Berkshire. The National Trust were keen to re-establish the walled garden into a working kitchen garden after learning about Thrive's work, approached us with the potential to run programmes there.

Thrive has been working in partnership with The National Trust for seven years and our gardeners are on site at The Vyne four days a week. Thrive gardeners work in the Walled Garden, near the main house, and have turned part of the garden back to an area for fruit and vegetable production.

In addition to our work in the Walled Garden our horticultural therapists teach conservation skills in Morgaston Woods, an area of 13th century woodland and part of The Vyne estate. The team are working as part of the overall woodland management scheme for the estate.

Some of the Thrive gardeners working at The Vyne have moved into The National Trust volunteer scheme and are helping with the formal gardens around the house.
