As part of Thrive's new blended learning approach to delivering training during the changed circumstances, we are now offering our introduction course as part of a blended learning opportunity.

This course provides an introduction to the key skills set for Social and Therapeutic Horticulture (STH) Practice, and will consider the fundamental practice approach and role of the practitioner within different practice settings.

This is the recommended first course in our blended learning programme for those new to STH and those wanting to learn more about STH’.

This course is suitable for:

Anyone who wants to begin their journey within STH: beginners, career changers and volunteers.

What you will learn:

  • The generalised benefits of gardening
  • The key theories behind why gardens are therapeutic
  • How gardens and gardening can be utilised as therapy
  • The different models of horticulture as therapy
  • The role of the practitioner

This is a blended course, held over 1 week with flexible access to all learning materials and staggered live event times to accommodate different learner's commitments to home and work. The schedule can be viewed here Introduction to STH Practice Course Schedule. Please note that the number of scheduled live events may be reduced subject to numbers of people on the course.

5-10 hours learning time required for the week including the live events.
