Big congratulations to ‘cheerful and enthusiastic’ Tim Swain for reaching the milestone of being a Thrive volunteer for 10 years.

Over the last decade, Tim has regularly supported horticultural therapy staff and client gardeners at Thrive Reading and at our outreach programme at The Vyne, near Basingstoke.

Happy to get stuck into any gardening job, Tim says ‘the lovely people’ are a key part of why he has volunteered for so long, although coming to Thrive helps him too.

‘What keeps me coming back is the social side and the laughs and kindness of everyone,’ he said. ‘Volunteering has helped me with being more confident.’

Jan Broady, Thrive Reading’s Client and Garden Manager, said: ‘Tim has been an absolute asset to Thrive over the 10 years he has been volunteering with us.

‘He is always cheerful, enthusiastic and willing to offer a hand to anyone who needs help.

'He provides a dependable level of support to the clients and is so generous and patient as he gives his time and attention to people.

‘I particularly enjoy Tim’s humour; a special memory is of Tim singing to the grass that he helped to sow!’

Tim (pictured on the right next to client gardener Gavin) made this brilliant cross-stitch to celebrate his anniversary at Thrive, which we will keep proudly at our centre in Reading.

Thank you Tim for a decade of memories. Here's to many more!
