Thrive is a national charity whose mission is to research, educate and promote the use and advantages of gardening for people with a disability.

Thrive at RHS Chelsea Flower Show 25-29 May 2010

157,000 people visit Chelsea, the world’s most famous flower show, and we were delighted to have been chosen to create a small urban garden for the 'Unexpected Gardener’.

And we were even more excited when this garden won a Gold medal! The designer of our garden is Jo Thompson, who was a previous Chelsea medal winner and created the Thrive garden for a stylish mature gentleman and keen gardener who, although finding gardening more challenging physically than in the past, does not want to compromise his design choices.

Thrive’s disabled gardeners at Reading and Battersea were involved with our Chelsea garden right from the start and grew some of the plants that featured in the final design.

If you missed Chelsea but would like to come and see the garden, or if you enjoyed the garden so much you’d like to see it again, we are rebuilding it at our garden project at Trunkwell in Beech Hill near Reading. We have open gardens here on July 18 and 25 between 2pm and 4.30pm where you can not only see the Chelsea garden, but discover Berkshire’s hidden gem of our three acre magnificent Victorian walled garden that is planted and maintained by disabled gardeners.
