Antiques collectors in Berkshire had the chance to discover the worth of their belongings at Thrive’s Antiques Valuation Evening on Thursday 22 September. The event was held at our National Office in Beech Hill and raised just under £1,000 towards our work enabling positive change in the lives of disabled and disadvantaged people through gardening and horticulture.
Professional valuer Guy Haskell of Bonhams, Henley-on-Thames, assessed over 50 items, ranging from jewellery to rugs, and pottery to cutlery. The evening was a great success, with guests enjoying a cold buffet during the valuations, before listening to a talk about some of their antiques.
Among the most precious antiques brought to the event were a marine painting with an estimated worth of between £2,000—£3,000, and a diamond ring that was valued at more than £5,000. There were also a number of unusual items brought along, including a special edition telephone directory designed by artist David Hockney and a colourful Ukranian teapot.
After the event, Thrive’s Head of Fundraising Anne Byard said, “The evening was a great success and Guy Haskell was fantastic. Events like these not only raise funds but will also increase the community knowledge of our work supporting disabled and disadvantaged people.”
