Thrive Annual Flower Show

22/07/2008

On Thursday 17 July the sun shone during the afternoon of our annual Flower Show at the Thrive Trunkwell Garden Project in Beech Hill, near Reading, Berkshire.

This is a special day for Thrive's disabled gardeners and disabled people from other garden projects in the surrounding area as it gives them the chance to show their carers and family and friends the results of their hard work.

This year we were delighted to receive 258 entries to the Show across 17 categories including the best fruit and vegetables, flower arrangements, photos taken in the garden, poems and cakes. Medals and certificates were presented to the first, second and third prize winners in each category and every entry received a certificate. The Show marquee was opened after judging and the entries were on display during the afternoon.

Over 100 Show visitors listened to 'live' music throughout the day and could chose from a tombola, refreshments, plant sales and a garden treasure hunt. Sue Tabor, Garden Manager, commented: "We were delighted that so many people entered and came along on the day. The standard of entries was extremely high. We would like to thank everyone for the hard work they put into their entries and congratulate the winners."

The photo shows gardeners from the Thrive Trunkwell Garden Project, from left to right: Stephen won third prize for his colourful hanging basket, Pam was awarded third prize for a collage of pressed flowers and leaves, Tony won second prize with his carefully arranged '8 onions on as plate' and Paul made a bird scarer using recycled materials which won second prize.
