Reading man runs 54 miles for Thrive

11/03/2008

Roger Davis, who lives in Caversham, Reading, has raised £545 for Thrive. He completed the Thames Meander, a 54 mile cross county run from Reading to Walton-on-Thames, which took place on 16 February.

Roger, who is a technical manager at Fujitsu Services in Bracknell, completed the run in an excellent time of 12 hours and 34 minutes. He started at 9.00am and finished at 9.34pm stopping only for a few quick drinks at water stations along the way. His family joined the crowds during the later stages of the race to cheer him on.

Roger began training for the grueling event in November 2007; he is a keen kick boxer, which helps build stamina and endurance. Roger commented: “I wanted to raise money for Thrive because it’s a local charity and in this fast and busy world it’s nice to find an organisation which takes the time and effort to help people to get back on their feet.

“I’d like to thank everyone at Nemisis Martial Arts and Fitness Club in Reading who helped me to train for this event, and hope the money raised will help Thrive to continue its valuable work using gardening to change the lives of people with a disability.”
