Trunkwell Flower Show 2010

22/07/2010

This year saw a record number of entries into the annual Flower Show at the Trunkwell Garden Project on 15th July. There were over 300 entries for the 19 classes this year and the judges had the very hard task of selecting winners for each class. Whilst the judging was taking place various activities were on offer such as Golf Putting, Treasure Island, Lucky Dip and Hook the Fish. In the background music was provided by Geoff Woodcote, which added to the carnival atmosphere.

After judging was completed the exhibits were open for viewing by all those who had attended the day. There were many happy individuals who had gained a first, second or third certificate. Later medals were awarded to the winners by David Aitchison-Tait, Thrive’s Chair of Trustees.

This year there was an additional special award for the Beanfest Competition which was open to projects in England. The competition was sponsored by Flying Brands Gardening Direct, who provided free packets of beans for projects that wished to enter. Tony Milne was present from the organisation to present the prize to the winners Hill View Farm.

Some of the classes with the highest entries were:

A herb garden in a pot - Thrive Battersea

Photograph of a garden scene - The Grange

Football pitch in a seed tray - The Grange

Poem about gardening - The Grange

The cake for this years flower show was a moist potato chocolate cake. There were complimentary comments from the judges on the standard of the cakes this year and they thoroughly enjoyed tasting them.
