Thrive is a national charity whose mission is to research, educate and promote the use and advantages of gardening for people with a disability.

Thrive launches new appeal

18/03/2010

Every year, 250,000 people have to learn to live life with a disability caused by a stroke.

Helping stroke survivors is really important to us at Thrive. We know from our research that gardening gives stroke survivors a sense of achievement, helps them move towards getting their life back, encourages a healthier lifestyle and is a positive part of recovery. Further more, things they learn in the garden can be transferred into the home. Building strength to hold and use a trowel is very close to being able to use a fork, spoon or knife, successfully growing any plant is pure magic and lifts our self worth.

Read Anne-Marie's story on how Thrive and gardening helped her build strength, build up her self esteem and move towards getting her life back and how you can help.

Donations from this appeal will pay for a trained therapist to regularly visit stroke clubs, rehabilitation and outpatient units to teach even more survivors how to use gardening. It will mean we can give people simple guides full of tips and techniques to take and use at home. Most of all it means we can inspire stroke survivors to use an everyday activity that millions enjoy to rebuild their lives.
