Jamie Roo entered into Plant of the Year 2010

21/05/2010

An exciting new award is being introduced at the RHS Chelsea Flower show 2010. The Plant of the Year award is open to floral and garden exhibitors to recognise the very best new plant introductions at this year's show. Thrive are very excited to be entering the Jamie Roo iris, which is making its debut at Chelsea 2010.

Submissions will be brought together on Saturday 22 May to be whittled down to the top 20 plants by the Plants Advisory Committee. These will then be displayed on Press Day and throughout the week on a specially created stage in the Great Pavilion. The 'RHS Chelsea Plant of the year' will be selected at the Plantsmans Conference on Monday 24 May and a trophy will be presented to the winning exhibitor by the RHS President on Tuesday 25 May.

When Brian Hersey, a retired maintenance engineer, from Maidstone, Kent first started trying to create a new and beautiful deep blue bearded iris three years ago, he didn’t suspect it would help him make his Chelsea Flower Show debut.

But the iris, 'Jamie Roo’, named after Brian’s six-year-old grandson, and now officially registered with the British and American Iris societies, has done just that. The Jamie Roo now has pride of place in Thrive’s Chelsea garden.
