New grants available for local food schemes

20/03/2008

Local Food is a new grants programme funded by the Big Lottery Fund. This programme aims to make locally grown food accessible and affordable to local communities and will look to distribute grants to a variety of food-related community projects across England.

Thrive is part of a consortium of 15 national environmental organisations that have been involved in developing the Local Food scheme.

The programme will award grants from £2,000 up to £500,000 to not-for-profit groups and organisations in England who are delivering projects such as growing, processing, marketing and distributing local food; composting and raising awareness of the benefits of such activities.

The programme opened to applications on 17 March 2008 and more information is available from the Changing Spaces Advice Line on 0845 367 1671 or on the Local Food website.
