Inspire Others

02/05/2008

Do you know the next amazing disabled gardener who could be awarded Thrive’s Inspire: the HRH Princess Alexandra Award for Outstanding Achievement?

We are searching for one gardener who can inspire others from the 24,000 disabled people who attend garden projects each week. We want to hear their stories and see photographs telling us about their success. In return they could win a handcrafted award and £50 of John Lewis vouchers. But more importantly become the Inspiration to encourage others to garden.

Last year’s winner, 60-year-old Tony Rigby, from Bury, Lancashire found his green fingers when he joined his local horticultural group in 2000. Until then, Tony, who has a learning difficulty, had never gardened before. Using his natural skills he soon gained a vocational qualification and won awards for his horticultural work in the community.

Nicola Carruthers, Chief Executive of Thrive, said, “I’m thrilled for Tony. It’s never too late to enjoy the benefits of gardening, everyone can make a valuable contribution to their community.”
