Come to the Thrive Battersea Garden Project annual flower show

10/09/2008

This year’s flower show is on Wednesday 24th September, in the Herb Garden near Albert Gate, and is open to visitors from 12.30 to 2.30pm.

The flower show is a celebration of the work and skills of disabled gardeners and entries come from Thrive’s disabled gardeners at Battersea Park and disabled people working with other garden projects across London.

The show has been organised to tie in with the United Nations Year of the Potato. There will be categories for the largest potato, the best ‘potato head’, the most tasty potato bread and the best picture of ‘My Garden’ using potato block printing. Other interesting and unusual entries among the 18 categories include the best presented basket of home produce, the best chutney and jam, the largest root vegetable and the best homemade shelter for over-wintering wildlife.

Visitors are invited to the show from 12.30 to 2.30pm and will be able to see the gardener’s entries. There will also be a tombola, raffle and a variety of creative activities. Refreshments and plants will be for sale.

Susan Stuart, Garden Manager at the Thrive Battersea Garden Project, commented: “Our autumn flower show is always a wonderful occasion where disabled gardeners from around London come together to show what they have achieved. It demonstrates the gardening skills and knowledge they have acquired and the remarkable progress they have made.”
