Gardening Advice

Elisabeth Standen gardeningWe can help with advice on your gardening challenges including care of particular plants, gardening techniques, tools and equipment that other visually impaired gardeners have found useful, and garden design.

Peter rang us recently with a question that is frequently asked by gardeners who have low vision.

”How can I tell a plant from a weed in my garden?”

Thrive’s answer is to make sure that you plant out into clean, weed-free soil in the garden as the plants will grow away quicker than the weeds can germinate. By doing this you will know where your plants are and can be sure that anything else growing is a weed, so can be removed.

Ask us your gardening questions by contacting our Information Service or by calling 0118 988 5688. There is an answering machine after 5pm until 9am, so just leave a message and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible.

Alternatively, you can write to us: Thrive, The Geoffrey Udall Centre, Beech Hill, Reading, RG7 2AT
