Our plans for the redevelopment
The new buildings and up to date facilities, which will come from our ambitious redevelopment, will allows us to:
- Help 220 disabled people every year – that’s more than four times as many people as we can today
- Reach a total of 2,500 disabled people though our community outreach work – that’s an incredible 10 times as many people as we reach today
- Launch new and ground breaking gardening programmes to meet the urgent need in our local community and in surrounding inner city communities
- Demonstrate to London’s decision makers, health and education professionals, and the general public, the benefits and positive results that our work can bring.
Our redevelopment plans are scheduled over three-years and the first work started in May 2008. The plans will be phased to allow us to continue working with disabled gardeners while the redevelopment progresses. The main priorities are to redesign the gardens to give larger planting and working areas, and to rebuild our indoor work areas to give pleasant and up to date facilities.
The first stage of our redevelopment is in the Herb Garden. The garden area has already been refurbished and we have built a fabulous Victorian style greenhouse with support from the Western Riverside Environment Fund. The next stage of work in this garden is to refurbish an old workshop to provide training and work facilities. From there we will progress and redevelop our main garden in 2009.
